One of opera's bloodiest, most controversial tales receives its Kansas City premiere over one-hundred years since its composition.
Long after he is murdered by her mother and her mother’s lover, Elektra dreams of avenging her father. Based on Greek mythology, Elektra is a thrilling story of one woman’s obsession with revenge, and how her quest eventually leads to her madness.
Now, over one hundred years since its premiere in 1909, Dramatic Voices Midwest brings Elektra to life in Kansas City. Sung by professional opera singers hailing from Kansas and Missouri, this expressionist opera tells the tale of family dysfunction gone terribly wrong and one woman's journey through the horrors of mental illness.
Content Advisory: This opera shows depictions of murder and mental illness.
